Contest Suite:
The NPD Group
Image
The Challenge
The NPD Group is a research company that speaks directly with consumers to learn about marketing trends and tactics. Using online surveys, they conduct interviews to gather useful data. The challenge is incentivizing enough people to participate in the surveys. Most survey companies offer token compensations like small gift cards or contributions to points programs. NPD and SCAinteractive saw an opportunity for something more engaging.
The Solution
Moving beyond the traditional model of a disconnected reward for participating in a survey, we built a new model that incentivized NPD’s panelists to answer more questions and be rewarded with an instant win promotion.
Image

A suite of contests throughout the year includes 30-day “quick-hit contests,” along with a full-season fantasy football game that keeps panelists engaged, excited, and, most important, returning to NPD often to answer more questions, and earn more prizes.
Image
The Results

We’re entering our sixth year partnering with The NPD Group, who continues to see increased engagement with their panelists and online reward system.

Fantasy Suite:
Sportsnet

Image
The Challenge
Sportsnet is Canada’s leading sports broadcaster and the only broadcaster with national NHL TV rights. Their investment in hockey and baseball in particular are substantial and therefore they need properties beyond broadcast that maximize their investment. Over the last 10+ years, Sportsnet has turned to SCAi as their partner to design and administer a highly customized and flexible suite of fantasy sports programs that engages sports fans and generates revenue dollars.

The Sportsnet Fantasy Hockey Pool Presented is just one of a series of sports-themed programs that SCAinteractive operates for Rogers Sportsnet every year. From Baseball to Basketball, Bracket programs to Fantasy sports, Sportsnet and their sponsors are able to engage at a deep and meaningful level with hundreds of thousands of Canadians. In 2019-20, the anchor program of the suite was the Fantasy Hockey Regular Season and Playoffs pools, which were both sponsored by RAM.
The Solution
The fantasy programs are custom designed and developed specifically for Sportsnet and tailored each year to meet sponsor brand and messaging requirements.

For the Fantasy Hockey program, each week of the regular season, and each round of the playoffs, contestants return to the site to make their picks for the upcoming week. Each weekly submission challenges fans to pick a roster of players from across the league, while remaining under a set “salary cap”. A sponsor-themed multiplier (RAM) is also applied to three players selected by the contestant, and those players earn double points.

A leaderboard and real-time stats allow contestants to track their performance, while groups and badges drive deeper social engagement. Content generate by the pool – winners, etc. – are integrated into live broadcast spots during hockey telecasts, providing greater exposure and increasing participation. Additional features were custom designed to amplify the RAM branding and messaging, and increase participation and engagement levels.
Image
The Results

The Sportsnet Fantasy Hockey Pool presented by RAM was highly engaging and valuable to RAM as a stand-alone property that existed on the web. Exponential value was also generated through the deep integration opportunities it provided to bring RAM’s sponsorship of the program into Sportsnet broadcasts and website content.

The program was recognized with GOLD at the Muse Creative Awards in the Immersive and Experiential category.

The Challenge
Phillips 66 is the marketing arm of ConocoPhillips, which oversees retail gas brands across the United States. They were facing a crisis, as certain markets were underperforming, demonstrating low gas sales and little customer interaction with the retail stores attached to the gas bars. Their existing promotional efforts were proving costly to operate and fulfill, with few clear wins to show for it. They approached SCAinteractive in search of a solution to increase engagement and sales, and connect with a younger audience.
The Solution
We developed the concept and technology behind a new game for retail gas customers. The game allowed customers to not only play immediately upon filling their tanks, but earn and redeem their reward all in one trip. We called it Tank5.
Image

After filling their tanks, customers were given a game card, which was actually a branded, active gift card. By texting in the code on the back of the card, 1 in 5 customers were automatically given a cash reward. The best part? The cash was available on the gift card immediately, so the customer could redeem it without leaving the store.
Image
The Results

Tank5 was a win for everyone. Our strategy allowed us to give out more prizes to more winners, at a lower cost to Phillips 66. Tank5 ran for more than 5 years, increasing gas sales in every market that participated, and proving customer engagement with redemption rates exceeding expectations by nearly 300%.

In 2016, Tank5 won the PAY FORWARD Award for Best Incentive/Promotions Program.

Wheel of
Destiny:
Phillips 66

Innovative &
Award-Winning

The Wheel of Destiny program was a first of its kind program to implement instant fulfillment of prize value directly into the P66, ConocoPhillips, or 76 app. The winnings were instantly available for use on a subsequent purchase in-store or at the pump.

In the summer of 2021, Phillips 66 launched the "Wheel of Destiny" promotion to engage customers and encourage the use of their My Phillips 66® App. This initiative aimed to increase fuel sales and boost app adoption by offering customers a chance to win digital gas cards instantly.

The Objective

SCAinteractive has been a long time partner of P66, helping them to engage their customers and drive transactions. With the launch of their new app, P66 turned to SCAinteractive to help with their go-to-market strategy.

Increase Fuel Sales

Encourage customers to choose Phillips 66 for their fuel needs by offering immediate rewards.

Boost App Adoption

Drive downloads and usage of the My Phillips 66® App, promoting features like Mobile Pay for a seamless payment experience.

Enhance Customer Engagement

Provide an interactive and rewarding experience to strengthen customer loyalty.

The Solution

SCAinteractive lead the project to design a program that would deploy solely within the various P66 brand apps (ConocoPhillips, Phillips 66, and 76). We coordinated with the P66 agency Carmichael Lynch on theme and creative design and with app developer P97 on technical integration and functionality requirements.

The result was an in-app engagement program custom-tailored to P66's specific objectives, timelines, and resources.

The program was supported through promotion on various multiple channels. Awareness campaigns included:

Digital Ads

Targeted online ads directed users to download the app and participate in the promotion.

Social Media

Engaging posts on platforms like Facebook informed followers about the promotion and encouraged participation.

Push Notifications

Existing app users received prompts highlighting the promotion and its benefits.

In Store Signage

Promotional materials at Phillips 66 stations alerted customers to the opportunity to win instant rewards.

Stunningly Effective

SCAinteractive supported P66 and their agency every step of the way as the Wheel of Destiny program took shape. From program design, to project management, API integration, execution, administration, and support.

    The Results

The Wheel of Destiny promotion exemplifies how integrating digital tools with customer incentives can drive engagement and sales. By leveraging the My Phillips 66® App, Phillips 66 not only provided added value to its customers but also positioned itself as an innovative leader in the fuel retail industry.

While specific metrics regarding fuel sales and app downloads were not publicly disclosed, the promotion's structure suggests potential positive outcomes: Increased App Engagement: By tying the promotion to app usage, Phillips 66 likely saw a rise in downloads and active users, fostering a tech-savvy customer base. Enhanced Customer Loyalty: The chance to win valuable gas cards may have incentivized repeat purchases and strengthened brand loyalty among participants..

I will never tire of saying Thank You to the SCAi team for the amazing work they have done to help get P66 to where we are with respect to our marketing and engagement. They are top-knotch.
