Scratch 2 Win

The Chicago Sun-Times was looking to increase circulation and generate some excitement with a fun promotion. A scratch card game was the perfect solution! Every Wednesday for eight weeks Scratch2Win game cards were included in the Sun-Times newspaper. Each game card contained eight game sections - two for Sunday and one for each of the other days of the week. Every day the paper published five different numbers between 1 and 10.  Contestants were to scratch only the five corresponding numbers on the section of their scratch card for that day on their game card. If any three of the five boxes uncovered on a single section revealed identical cash amounts, they won that amount.  SCAinteractive handled the contest development and operations as well as secured print management and PIN coordination for the game pieces. Detailed reporting and tracking were also available.

Contest results included:

  • Increased sales of single copy newspapers all week long with a strong continuity promotion
  • Measurable sales numbers provided leverage when seeking advertisers for the newspaper
  • Provided an exciting, fun, easy to play promotion as a point of difference in advertising from the other newspaper in town
  • Equity developed with the Scratch2Win concept resulted in great participation for each subsequent running of the promotion. The promotion is in its fourth engagement!
